The Best Of 2015's New Surf Tech

The Board: The Surrator - Laird StandUp We've all liked a bit of Laird Hamilton and, more recently, some of us have been liking his range of boards and other kit. But if you haven't, now is the time to stand up and take notice (pun intended) as Laird et al. have made it to the cutting edge.

The rails of Laird StandUp's new Surrator board are uneven, undulating and almost literally serrated which helps the board to gain traction and remain balanced on steep wave faces. This in turn means high lines and great times.

The Suit: Celliant Drylock - Xcel With a cutting edge heat preserving lining that uses infrared conversion and conservation technology, this suit will be perfect for cold winter surfing. The suit's diamond meshed high pile Celliant panels and infrared converting lining turn body heat into usable infrared energy.

The Tech: The Clever Buoy is pretty much set to be a life saver. All too often at the moment we hear of surfers getting attacked, mauled and even killed by sharks. This is why we are so glad to hear about Optus's new idea, the shark detecting clever buoy.

This incredible new piece of technology can sit in any coastal waters using sonar to identify the distinctive shape and movements of a shark. Then it uses the Optus telecom network to instantly tell the lifeguards on the beach to get people out of the water. Frankly, we can't wait for it to start saving lives.
